Patch Charity

Our Charity Mission

We at Pumpkin Patch South Africa kids clothing are dedicated to all the children of the world and recognize that some children are not as fortunate as our biggest Patch fans.

Our dedication to children is a part of our business philosophy and our decision is to make an impact within the communities we serve.  For this reason each and every Pumpkin Patch store has adopted a charity in its area to work closely with. This even includes our team at head office!

Charity Diversity

Our selection of charities ranges from adoption homes, to homes for the handicapped to charities that support parents of disadvantaged children.  This broad spectrum of causes allows us to help in a variety of ways.  Some times we are donating blankets, other times clothes.  Most enjoyably however are the parties we have committed to giving children at these homes twice a year.  Having fun and enjoying life and laughter is part of the Pumpkin Patch way and as you will see, our parties go a long way to making a difference.

We invite you to view the work we have done and explore some of the charity websites for further information or any donations you wish to make of your own.  We also welcome any feedback and suggestions you may have and ask you to e-mail: melinda@pumpkinpatchsa.co.za

Sandton Store: Princess Alice Adoption Home

Our Sandton City store has selected the Princess Alice Adoption Home situated in Westcliff.

This home is a facility of the Johannesburg Child Welfare Society was founded in 1930 by Princess Alice, one of Queen Victoria's 35 grandchildren.  It was initially started to serve the mining community and has snce evolved to being one of the first centres to cater for all racial and ethnic cultures.  Today their primary service is to act as a place of safety for up to 30 babies from the Johannesburg, Gauteng area.

Their secondary function is to serve pregnant girls in crisis.  The Home becomes their home for anything from a few days to a few months, while they wait out their pregnancy eventually giving the baby up for adoption, or keeping it.  Either way, the girls are well prepared for their major decision with the dedicated help of the social workers at the home.

Patch makes a difference

For winter 2009, Sandton City Pumpkin Patch store decided to donate 100 fleecy extra large blankets.  These were donated just in time for one of the coldest winters in memory.  The blankets were well received and a party has been planned for the spring.  Every three months any baby that had turned one in the previous quarter will celebrate their birthdays together.

Pumpkin Patch will be sponsoring this birthday.  Most importantly we will sponsor a photographer and graphic designer who will take photo’s and digitally enhance and frame them so that each child has a warm memory of their very important first birthday.  This will form an important part of their memory book which the home compiles from the baby's first day at the Home, until the time that they leave.

Birthday Bonanza

The Princess Alice Adoption home in Westcliff  and Pumpkin Patch International Kids Clothing held a party for 7 babies who were all turning 1 years old at the home.

The home celebrates that very important first birthday by holding a big party every quarter for all the kids to turn one in that period.

The Princess Alice Adoption home is a part of Johannesburg Child Welfare Society and been caring for and acting as a place of safety for babies for over 75 years.  Perched on the top of the most spectacular view site on Westcliff ridge the home is a safe haven for up to 30 babies.

Loads of fun was provided by volunteers who wore party hats and presented each child with their own personalised birthday cake.
